Bangladesh Beats Australia in an ODI Series for the First Time Ever

by Mahnoor Arif

Bangladesh made history by defeating Australia in the first One Day International (ODI) of the series in Mirpur. The hosts secured an impressive 86-run victory, marking their first ODI series win over Australia and ending more than two decades of Australian dominance in the format.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bat first and posted a competitive total of 284 for 8 in their allotted overs. Middle-order batter Mosaddek Hossain played a brilliant, unbeaten knock of 86 runs and helped his team recover after losing a few early wickets. His innings provided the foundation for Bangladesh’s strong total.

Australia faced difficulties from the start of their chase. Bangladesh’s bowlers kept constant pressure on the batters, with fast bowler Nahid Rana delivering an outstanding performance. He claimed four important wickets and played a major role in restricting Australia’s batting lineup.

The Australian side also struggled in the field, dropping several catches that proved costly. Despite an unbeaten 52-run effort from Cameron Green, Australia never managed to build momentum. The team was eventually bowled out for 191 runs.

A brief rain interruption occurred during the match, but Bangladesh remained ahead under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, confirming their victory. The win gives Bangladesh a strong start to the series and represents one of the most memorable achievements in the country’s cricket history.
