Khawaja Asif Demands Complete B@n on ‘Vigo Dala’ Culture in Parliament

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly called for a complete ban on the controversial “Vigo Dala” culture inside Parliament Lodges. He raised the issue during a National Assembly session on June 21, 2026, urging strict action to restore order and public trust.

“Vigo Dala” refers to the widespread use of Toyota Vigo pickup trucks and similar security vehicles by agencies and VIPs. These vehicles are often seen in large convoys with armed personnel. People link this culture to heavy-handed security practices, including reports of enforced disappearances in parts of the country. Asif described the practice as inappropriate and “shameless,” saying it causes inconvenience to lawmakers, their families, and the public in Islamabad.

Speaking in Parliament, Asif stressed the need for transparency, the rule of law, and accountability. He said unnecessary movement of visitors, photography in restricted areas, and excessive security vehicles create risks and disturb the decorum of the Parliament complex. He asked authorities to stop such vehicles from entering Parliament Lodges.

The statement has sparked fresh debate on civil rights, governance, and the role of security agencies. Many lawmakers support the call for reforms and better oversight. Supporters say ending this culture will reduce fear and build confidence in state institutions.
