Pakistan has officially become a permanent member of the International Olive Council (IOC), a move expected to strengthen the country’s growing olive industry and boost exports.
The announcement was made during the 123rd IOC Session in Lisbon, Portugal, where Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain represented Pakistan. Officials said the membership will give the country access to global expertise, quality standards and new international markets.
Pakistan has planted around seven million olive trees and established 51 olive oil extraction units as part of its efforts to expand domestic olive production and reduce reliance on imported edible oils.
The government believes permanent IOC membership will help attract investment, improve olive oil quality and create new opportunities for farmers and exporters.
