Pakistan has decided to show strong support for Iran during a sad time. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a high-level Pakistani delegation will attend the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Friday, June 19, 2026, PM Sharif said the funeral events are planned for July 3 and 4. He added that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian personally invited Pakistan and thanked the country for its support.
Ayatollah Khamenei passed away on February 28, 2026, after serving as Iran’s Supreme Leader for many years. Large public ceremonies are expected in Tehran and other cities, with his burial later in Mashhad.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan’s participation in the funeral prayers would highlight the deep brotherly relations, mutual respect, and close ties between the two neighboring Muslim countries. He also invited President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan soon, and the invitation was happily accepted.
This move comes at a sensitive time for the region. Pakistan and Iran share strong historical, cultural, and religious bonds. By sending a delegation, Pakistan aims to stand with Iran and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.
