Massive Forest Loss in Kotli Sattian Captured by Satellite Images

by Mahnoor Arif

Severe wildfires have caused large-scale damage in Kotli Sattian, where around 3,000 hectares of forest area were reportedly destroyed across multiple locations. Satellite images have confirmed the extent of the destruction, showing widespread burn marks in this environmentally sensitive region of Punjab.

The fires spread across nearly 25 different sites, making the situation more serious and difficult to control. Experts believe that extreme heat conditions played a major role in increasing the intensity and spread of the flames. Dry weather and rising temperatures created a situation where the fire moved quickly through forested areas.

Kotli Sattian is known for its natural forests and biodiversity, which makes the loss even more concerning. The destruction of trees not only affects wildlife habitats but also contributes to soil erosion and climate imbalance in the region. Local communities may also face long-term effects, including changes in water flow and reduced natural resources.

Authorities are now focusing on assessing the full scale of environmental damage. Discussions have also started on improving wildfire prevention systems, early warning mechanisms, and better forest management practices to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Environmental experts say that increasing heat waves and climate change are making such events more common in South Asia. They stress the need for stronger conservation efforts and public awareness to protect remaining forest areas.
