Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, joining senior officials and delegations from around the world paying their respects.

The funeral events have brought together representatives from more than 100 countries, including heads of state, ministers, military officials and religious leaders.

Iranian authorities have put extensive security measures in place as large crowds gather in Tehran for the state ceremonies.

Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit reflects the longstanding diplomatic and security ties between Pakistan and Iran.

During the visit, he is expected to convey condolences on behalf of Pakistan’s leadership and people while expressing solidarity with Iran during its period of national mourning.

Iran has scheduled several days of funeral and memorial events before the late leader is laid to rest in Mashhad. Thousands of mourners have already gathered in Tehran, with more expected to participate in the processions in the coming days.

Pakistan and Iran share close relations based on their common border, regional cooperation and economic interests.

Officials say Pakistan’s participation in the funeral ceremonies highlights the importance Islamabad places on maintaining strong bilateral ties with its neighboring country.
