The Pakistan Army has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based drone company Powerus that includes an initial order for unmanned aerial systems, according to the company’s co-founder Brett Velicovich.
Velicovich said the agreement was signed during the company’s engagement with Pakistan’s military and includes an initial order for Powerus systems. However, he did not disclose the value of the order or provide specific details about the drone technology, citing security and confidentiality concerns.
The development follows a meeting between a Powerus delegation and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on September 16. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on defence procurement, production and long-term capacity building.
Powerus develops aerial and maritime unmanned systems for military and industrial applications. The company has also expressed interest in exploring a broader technology partnership with Pakistan, including the possibility of producing some technology locally.
Velicovich said the goal was to develop a joint US-Pakistan technology relationship by combining capabilities from both countries. The potential for local production could provide another avenue for cooperation in Pakistan’s growing defence technology sector.
The agreement comes as relations between Pakistan and the United States have been strengthening after years of tensions. It also comes ahead of Powerus’ planned merger with Aureus Greenway Holdings, a US-listed company backed by an investment fund linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
The exact number, type and value of drones covered by the initial order have not been publicly disclosed. Further details about future production or technology cooperation are also yet to be announced.
