The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed authorities to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
A three-member Supreme Court bench issued the order on August 18, directing that Khan remain at the hospital until the next hearing. The court also ordered the formation of a medical board of specialists to assess his health and oversee his treatment.
Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, and his personal physician have been allowed to remain present during his medical assessment. The court said the medical examination should be carried out properly and that all necessary treatment should be provided.
The Supreme Court also sought Khan’s complete medical record, along with details of meetings he has had with family members during the past three years. Authorities were further asked to provide information about his communication with his sons.
The court directed officials to make proper security arrangements around the hospital and maintain law and order. It also stressed that Khan’s health should not be turned into a political issue or used for political purposes.
The development comes amid continuing concerns over the former prime minister’s health while he remains in Adiala Jail. His family and legal team have previously raised concerns about his medical condition and access to treatment.
The court’s decision is expected to provide Khan with closer medical supervision while also allowing independent doctors and his family to remain involved in his medical assessment.
